Jacksonville Humane Society
Retail · Southside
Jacksonville Humane Society is the animal-adoption campus at 8464 Beach Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32216, on the Southside. Google Places lists the phone as (904) 725-8766. This Stay Safe Jax page is that Beach Boulevard Adoption and Education Center. It is not Jacksonville Animal Care and Protective Services, not a pet store, and not a different rescue.
Action News Jax reported on January 14, 2026 that THE PLAYERS Championship sponsored $20 adoptions January 17–19 at 8464 Beach Boulevard, with more than 100 cats and dogs, weekend hours 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and pets going home spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. The Times-Union’s August 1, 2026 pet column listed a Last Splash of Summer event at the same Beach Boulevard address with half-off adoption fees. Action News Jax reported on September 5, 2026 that JHS was waiving adoption fees through Labor Day, September 7, with the ASPCA Rescue Effect campaign. CEO Lawrence Nicolas is quoted in that coverage. Those are adoption-event stories, not a warning that the shelter closed.
Public ratings on this page are stored snapshots, not live scores. Google Places currently lists Jacksonville Humane Society at 4.3 from 2,286 reviews for the 8464 Beach Boulevard listing, the same place ID stored here. Stay Safe Jax has no stored Yelp rating, so the headline is the Google snapshot: 4.3 from 2,286 reviews. A 4.3 on a busy municipal-area shelter is an ordinary mixed consumer file. Residents praise adoptions and staff; others complain about waits, fees, or animal availability. Stay Safe Jax does not stretch those ordinary reviews into a lawsuit. The scores are not live.
Google currently lists weekday hours 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and weekend hours 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Event weekends can differ, as the January 2026 PLAYERS story showed. Google Places lists wheelchair-accessible parking and entrance. It does not list a wheelchair restroom. Stay Safe Jax did not independently inspect the campus.
Stay Safe Jax leaves warning flags at 0. JHS on Beach Boulevard is an open Southside adoption center with a large Google file, posted hours, and recent Times-Union and Action News Jax event coverage. Check Google or those news pages before you go, because holiday hours change.
